Cognitive Load

Usage think most content on the Design & Development home page has been grouped together pretty well, chunks of information aren’t too big and overwhelming. Different elements have been broken up to contain their content in a clear consistent way. Hierarchy of the page and the contents within are quite clear. The home page is short and to the point but offers links/ buttons within the content for any user who wants to learn more/ read further.

The contact for page is very simple and easy to understand. It is blocked in a way that is easy to read, with clear headings, and a spot where users can enter their contact information if they want.

Language Usage

Clear and consistent headings + content make it pretty scannable. The usage of language in the content of the home page & the contact page is easy to read and not too much of an “information overload”.

Colour & Typography

I think the colours, contrasts and tones of the Digital Design page did a wonderful job. They stay true to the tone and branding of the rest of the collages websites and social media pages, but nothing is “too much” The colour pallets used for this work well, and the contrast between the dark blues and lighter colours works really well without being to harsh. Buttons and heading grab the eye with the different choices of colours. The typography, and the hierarchy within it are clear and easy to read and understand.

I give the home page & contact form a 4.5 /5

Perceivable: Now I think in the top bar in safari there is a way to change the size of text & colour of the text, however I’m not familiar with how to do that so im not sure if the home page has that option. However I can easily find the button on safari to read out the contacts of the page so those who may have problems with eye sight/ reading can have the information read out to them.

Understandable: I love this about what I’m seeing on the Design website, its extremely understandable, easy to read and navigate. The content and layout is done in such a way that it has all the information that you need but you aren’t bombarded with too much content. ( no huge blocks of paragraphs, clear buttons & links, accessible nav bar to move from page to page.)

Operable: This one is kind of like perceivable so I’m not 100% sure how to answer this one. Like perceivable I’m not familiar with using specific functions for browsing the web. I know there is a setting on computers so that you can access most content with just the keyboard or specific keys. Aside from that I’m sure it is operable if you have your computer on a specific setting for your needs but I’m not completely sure how to check this.

Robust: I checked out the design page on my phone to see how it would be presented. Obviously it is slightly different and will be different across different devices, but it does stay pretty true to its form. The website from my iPhone is fit to my screen, making the page longer, but it still presents its self and clear and understandable. The main change is the nav bar, it is still easy to locate at the top, but is presented with three little lines that you have to click, rather than the page titles on the top as you would see from a computer.
